This Thursday, Sept. 28, from 3:30-4:45 in Belk (Gym) 201, there will be a talk, free and open to the public, by Dr. Justene Hill Edwards, entitled “The Slaves’ Economy, Cotton, and Capitalism in Antebellum America.”  

Dr. Hill Edwards, an assistant professor of history at the University of Virginia, earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2015.  Her current book project, *Black Markets: The Slaves’ Economy and Plantation Capitalism in South Carolina*, interrogates the relationship between slave economies and plantation capitalism in South Carolina between the American Revolution and the Civil War.
